When I wrote the editorial of the previous edition (19.1), COVID-19 was this distant item in the news that occasionally was mentioned. In the last three months, it has changed the world as we know it, with hundreds of thousands of deaths, the global economy moving to a depression, with a new existence for all involving social distancing while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Into this environment, the use of information, for good and for bad intentions, has grown tremendously as different groups try to seize the narrative and cast blame or divert attention. In addition, academics and researchers are feeling the pain as Universities and Colleges are shutdown, with huge losses in revenue and funding.These are indeed strange times, and unfortunately, I am not sure that it will get better soon, so as a group I ask that we all continue to write and publish, rigorous and detailed papers, that demonstrate and reveal the truth to ensure that we are not blinded by lies and innuendo. To that end, now more than ever, we need to collaborate on future research projects, to reach across international boundaries for like-minded academics, to work together in this uncertain period. From a JIW perspective, we are recommending two specific actions, that everyone can participate in. The first is to attend virtually any and all academic conferences that you can, so that during this period, these events continue and do not close due to lack of funding. Many of these organizations are being quite creative in allowing delegates to get a similar conference experience as well as getting published by hosting virtual sessions, which is exciting to participate in. The second effort that we recommend is to work with the JIW staff, as we roll out new options on our website, to offer collaborative areas where authors can bounce ideas off of other academics for future papers, grants, contracts, and other funding or events in which to publish. We will have this new area set up soon at www.jinfowar.com, and we welcome ideas to make it better.

Dr. Leigh Armistead is the President of Peregrine Technical Solutions, a certified 8(a) small business that specializes in cyber security, and the Chief Editor of the Journal of Information Warfare. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy (1984), earned a master’s degree in Military History from Old Dominion University (1993), and a doctorate in Computer and Information Science from Edith Cowan University (2009). His major field of study is cyber power. He has published three books—all of which focus on the full spectrum of information warfare. He founded the International Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security, and the Vice-Chair Working Group 9.10–ICT Uses in Peace and War. He is a retired Naval officer.
