In this 32nd issue of JIW, some of the papers have been expanded from the International Conference on Information Warfare 2012 whilst some of the others have their derivation from the ICT Uses in Warfare and The Safeguarding of Peace Workshop held in South Africa.
I welcome Dr van Niekerk onto the Journal’s editorial board. Brett is the joint author of the first paper in this issue. After the welcoming, I will now bid a farewell to the outgoing coordinating editor - David Cook - and thank him for his efforts.
The papers presented show the variety of topics relevant to Information Warfare. The discipline’s span is very wide perhaps this is why the area is so interesting.
The issue starts with Niekerk and Maharaj examining the threat of smart mobile telephones and their implications for Information Warfare practice. Grobler and Robertson then examine a model for automating force readiness. Bardach-Yalov then examines Russian propaganda using Kracauer’s qualitative content analysis method. Finally, Prislan and Bernik investigate state propaganda campaigns.

Professor Bill Hutchinson was Foundation IBM Chair in Information Security at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. He was Director of SECAU (Security Research Centre) and was coordinator of the Information Operations and Security programmes. From 2000 to 2010, he was the Chief Editor and founder of the Journal of Information Warfare.
