Protecting U.S. Army Infrastructure by Enhancing Cybersecurity for Onsite Third-Party Energy Providers

Abstract:

The U.S. Army Office of Energy Initiatives (OEI) facilitates the procurement of independently owned and operated energy generating assets to support energy resilience capabilities at U.S. Army installations. When developing contracts for these assets, OEI implements a set of cybersecurity requirements it has developed based on energy sector consensus guidance. For many energy projects, these OEI Cybersecurity Requirements are the primary set of cybersecurity requirements the U.S. Army applies. For others, the U.S. Department of Defense Risk Management Framework and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification provide additional cybersecurity requirements and guidance.

Fitting the Artificial Intelligence Approach to Problems in DoD

Abstract: 

Emerging and disruptive technologies, due to advances made over the last couple of decades, have become the centrepiece of Department of Defense (DoD) concerns about national security. The technologies are unique because they can both benefit and hinder the DoD from its mission. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revered in DoD circles as one of the most important of these technologies because of its potential as an absolute ‘gamechanger’ in cybersecurity operations. In this study, the focus is on the DoD fitting the Artificial Intelligence approach to its problems in a time of limited and diminishing resources.

Enabling Successful Artificial Intelligence Implementation in the Department of Defense

Abstract: 

The Pentagon sees Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key enabler of future military operations. However, to secure the potential promise of AI, the Department of Defense (DoD) must address a number of challenges including technological diversity, cultural silos, and insufficient skillsets. The onset of what is perceived to be the next global ‘arms’ race will position ’the winner’ as the top superpower that could define and dictate future directions and priorities across the globe. 

Building Future Generations of Elite Cyber Professionals (CNODP)

ABSTRACT

With the increase in cyber attacks, defending America’s networks is one of the primary Department of Defense challenges in the 21st century. It is a national imperative to have elite cyber-warfare forces trained and ready to protect the country’s National Security Systems and critical infrastructure against attacks in cyberspace. To that end, the National Security Agency has created the Computer Network Operations Development Program (CNODP), a highly effective cyber-defense workforce-training program. The CNODP is NSA’s premier vehicle for developing skilled civilian and military personnel into highly effective cyber warriors and capability creators who build on their degrees in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, and information assurance. Rotational work assignments provide program participants with challenging technical experiences in multiple locations, missions, and disciplines, as well as continual and enduring networking and mentorship within the broader Computer Network Operations community.
